Educational Kinesiology ( Brain Gym)
What is Educational Kinesiology (Brain Gym)?
Educational Kinesiology is a system which helps to integrate the brain, body and senses, helping to reestablish within the client the physical skills they need to learn effectively. It is based on the concept that movement facilitates learning and that an infant crawling on the floor is not only preparing muscles to learn to walk but is also creating the neural pathways required for the acquisition of language and higher learning. Developed by Paul Dennison, Ph.D., nearly 30 years ago 'Edu-K' as it is sometimes referred , is now recognized in over twenty countries and has been named one of the twelve programs representing "Successful Learning Innovations" annually by the National Learning Foundation (U.S), since 1990.
More commonly known as 'Brain Gym', The Brain Gym is actually a piece of the Edu-K process. The Brain Gym portion of Edu-K includes 26 simple movements that help to integrate mind and body to bring about rapid and often dramatic improvements in areas such as concentration, memory, reading, writing and organizing to name a few. When used within the Edu-K balance process these simple movements help to release stress in the visual, auditory and kinesthetic systems enabling clients to see, hear and move more efficiently and, correspondingly, to think and respond more easily and clearly. Edu-K and the Brain Gym movements help to 'switch on' neural pathways that have been blocked or underused for some reason, often stress related. When these pathways are unblocked we learn faster and easier, while staying alert and focused longer.
Who Can Benefit?
Originally created to help children with learning challenges such as Dyslexia and ADHD, Edu-K is now also being used to improve functioning in many areas of life:

It can help the student of Driver's Education with both the assimilation of theory and stress reduction in the practical tests. For the adult not in a classroom or overt learning situation, Educational Kinesiology can be used to help the client to be more organized, make it easier to keep paperwork and, for example, tax records, under control, or improve athletic or musical performances. As Educational Kinesiology helps to remove stress from the body/brain system and keep, it stands to reason that it may be helpful in keeping the aging brain flexible and healthy as well.
