Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy

craniosacral therapy integral Health Clinic - Ottawa Canada

Is a gentle yet profound non-invasive, hands-on treatment for the whole body. The practitioner uses his or her hands to evaluate the craniosacral system and detect restrictions, gently feeling various locations of the body to test for the ease of motion and rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid pulsing around the brain and spinal cord.
The treatment is focused on supporting the health of the whole being, especially the nervous system. This is the system that dictates all of the body’s functioning, constantly sending and receiving information. Craniosacral Therapy is very soothing to the nervous system and creates a large sense of relaxation.
It also works with the membranes, and helps the circulation of the cerebrospinal fluid that protects and nourishes the brain and spinal cord .

Every day your body endures stresses and strains for which it must compensate. Unfortunately, this compensation often causes body tissues to tighten and to distort the craniosacral system. These distortions then cause tension to form around the brain and spinal cord resulting in restrictions that create a barrier to the healthy performance of the central nervous system, and potentially every other system with which it interacts.

The aim of the treatment is to facilitate the expression of the original matrix in tissues that have become disordered and affected by pathology. Using a gentle touch the practitioner will release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system.

Performed on a massage table, the client is fully clothed and the touch is generally light and still. While holding a safe, secure space around the client, the practitioner will place their hands on the client and may touch the feet, the spine, the sacrum, the skull and its cranial bones, sutures, diaphragms, and fascia. Each craniosacral session is unique with the practitioner working with the client’s current state.

By normalizing the environment around the brain and spinal cord and enhancing the body’s ability to self heal, Craniosacral Therapy is able to alleviate a wide variety of dysfunctions, these include:

  • Reduction in Chronic pain – Sports injuries
  • Stroke – Neurological impairment
  • Stress relief – Relaxation
  • General Health and Well being
Franklyn Sills

,an early pioneer in the development of a biodynamic understanding and approach to Craniosacral Therapy, states:

“In healing work this is a critical point to understand – No matter how desperate the situation, the information of the whole, its inherent ordering principle or blueprint, is still available in each part. The blueprint of health is thus present in each part and is still available if it can be accessed.”

People sometimes ask about the name Craniosacral Therapy and think it only refers to the head. In fact Craniosacral Therapy works with the whole person and changes may occur in body, mind and spirit during and after sessions.
